Kailash Gahlot resign from AAP cabinet

Kailash Gahlot is a prominent Indian politician and lawyer, currently serving as a Cabinet Minister in the Delhi government. He represents the Najafgarh constituency as a member of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and has held various key portfolios, including Transport, Finance, Administrative Reforms, Information Technology, and Revenue.

Born on July 22, 1974, Gahlot completed his education at Delhi University, earning degrees in Political Science, Law (LL.B.), and a Master’s in Law (LL.M.). Before entering politics, he practiced as an advocate in the Supreme Court and Delhi High Court for over 16 years.

Gahlot entered politics with his election to the Delhi Legislative Assembly in 2015 and became a cabinet minister in May 2017. He is known for his focus on public service and community development, particularly in education and vocational training. As a philanthropist, he established the Sri Ram Chander Gahlot Charitable Trust, which works on initiatives like vocational training centers for women and youth employment programs.

In a big setback to Arvind Kejriwal ahead of assembly elections, Delhi Minister Kailash Gahlot resigned from AAP on Sunday. He launched a scathing attack on the AAP, which he said spends most of its time fighting the Centre. He also said the ‘sheeshmahal’ controversy was ‘very embarrassing’.

Gahlot listed another painful point, which he said that instead of fighting for people’s rights, the AAP has increasingly only been fighting for its own political agenda. “This has severely crippled our ability to even deliver basic services to the people of Delhi. It is now obvious that real progress for Delhi cannot happen if the Delhi Government spends a majority of its time fighting with the Centre.”

Gahlot represents the Najafgarh constituency in the Delhi Legislative Assembly and has been re-elected multiple times. After Kejriwal stepped down, Gahlot was among the key contenders for the chief minister’s post. However, Kejriwal picked Atishi over Gahlot for the top job.
